Couldrons of Lava on Mt Etna

Mount Etna - Cauldra

70cm x 50cm x 5cm sculptural watercolour in a boxed frame

Mount Etna, on the island of Sicily in the Mediterranean, is Europe's highest and most active volcano. A particularly noteworthy series of eruptions began in 2001 and continues.

The geological activity portrayed by the glowing activity of magma against the cold rock has intrigued the artist in this series of sculptural pictures..

This detail illustrates a 'caldra' where the magma reaches the surface, leaving a characteristic indentation.

Watercolour handling is taken to its limits.
